I have a confession that probably won’t surprise anyone who owns a business.

I am very good at being busy.

Give me an inbox, a Slack channel, a few employee questions, a client issue, an interview, a creative request and an SOP that apparently needs to be explained for the 47th time, and I can fill an entire day.

Easily.

I’ll start working in the morning, look up hours later and wonder how it’s possibly already dinner.

And I’ll have accomplished a lot.

The emails were answered.

The problem was solved.

The meeting happened.

The fire was put out.

The document was recreated.

The person was trained… again.

The creative was approved.

The question was answered.

I was productive.

But lately I’ve started asking myself a much more uncomfortable question:

Did any of it actually grow the business?

Sometimes the answer is no.
